This month's number fun!
January/February: We are now using our knowledge of numbers and counting to create number stories and number sentences. We are also working on partitioning numbers by finding the many ways to break up a particular number.
December: We are using the calendar to work on counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's. We are also working on counting out objects to match numerals up to 30.
October/November: We are focusing on the numerals 0-20 and learning what their names are and how many objects they stand for. The children have been working on a number book where they practice writing each numeral and using stickers or stamps to show the correct amount. We are also working on taking the numerals, mixing them up, and putting them back in the correct order. The children have been playing counting games to practice counting to 100 by 1's, 5's, & 10's. We have begun learning to count by 2's (skip counting) as well. During these months the children will be playing several math games to familiarize themselves even more with the names of the numbers and what they represent. During October we will be doing several activities incorporating pumpkins with numbers.
September: This month the children are practicing forming the numerals from 1-10 by learning each number's rhyme. We are working on taking the numbers 0-10, mixing them up, and putting them back in order from left to right. Most of our number work will involve taking a number, recognizing what it's called and what it represents, then counting out the correct amount of objects to math that number. The numbers your child will be counting up to depends on your child's skill level.
