What is Parents as Teachers Program?
Parents As Teachers (PAT) is a home-school-community partnership
which
supports parents in their role as their child's first and most
influential
teachers.
This is a chance for you to get your child ready for a lifetime
of loving
and learning.
What does the program offer?
PAT offers personal visits, playgroups, parent meetings, monthly
newsletter,
Parent support, developmental screenings, and a lending library
You will learn more about why your child acts like he/she does
and to learn
at each stage of development
Is there any cost associated with the program?
NO-- PAT is a state-funded program, There are no income
guidelines, and all
services are offered to the family free of charge.
Who can participate?
Any family living in the Whiteside School District with at least
one child
under 5 years of age.
What are the benefits of Parents as Teachers?
Parents are the first and most important teachers a child will
ever have.
Parents as Teachers will assist parents in developing the skills
and
confidence needed to promote their child's healthy development.
Through
the PAT program, parents will improve their child's motivation to
learn,
increase the child's self-esteem, and thus enhance school
readiness.

Where is the program located?
The PAT PLAYROOM is located at Whiteside Elementary School,
we are in the first mobile unit on the right, across from the
main
building.

What are playgroups?
Playgroups give your child a chance to interact and play with
other
children. Activities and games to encourage development are
available for
parents to participate in with their child. Playgroups also
allow parents
the opportunity to meet other familes with small children in the
area.
When are playgroups held?
Playgroups are held twice a month, in the PAT classroom. Check
the calendar
for upcoming dates and times. All family members are invited to
attend
playgroups.
