In addition to assignments and activities that reinforce specific skills
taught, one of your child’s weekly assignments is to spend a certain number of
minutes reading per week. This number will increase each quarter. Students
will be required to keep a reading log, which must be signed by a parent and
turned in at the end of each week. I feel that reading is one of the most
beneficial forms of learning outside of the classroom.
Other homework assignments will include activities that will help your child
build upon what they have learned at school and will reinforce skills being
taught. Sometimes an assignment that was not finished in class will be sent
home to be completed. Homework assignments are always due the next day unless
otherwise noted. Special projects will always be clearly outlined in detail
with a timeline of due dates.
Please understand that it is not my goal to load students down with homework
just to keep them busy. The amount of time that it takes your child to
complete an assignment may vary, as all children have different planning,
organizational and work habits.
Homework assignments will be recorded daily by your child in their
assignment notebook. I will do a spot check each day to ensure those
assignments are recorded correctly. Please sign your name each night to
confirm that you are aware of the assignment. Remember, assignments are due
the next day, unless otherwise noted. Students who do not turn in their
homework assignments on time will bring them in the next day along with the
new homework assigned. If the work is not turned in by the second day,
students will have to make them up during recess that day. Regularly missed
assignments could result in a lower grade for the quarter.
