Do you celebrate birthdays in your classroom?

We would like to celebrate you child's birthday in our room!
There are 22 children currently enrolled in our class so please
send enough for everyone.
If your child wishes to celebrate his/her birthday in school, s/he
may do so by sharing a non-edible treat with his/her classmates.
If you choose to do this, I request that the non-edible treat be
kept simple and be available for all students in the class.
Listed below are non-edible birthday treat suggestions. The Dollar
Store and on line stores such as Oriental Trading are great places
to find inexpensive treats.

-Pencils -yo-yos -bubbles
-Bookmarks -crazy straws -key chain
-erasers -slinkies -rubber balls
-tattoos -marbles -kazoos
-stickers -silly putty -chalk

An alternative to individual party treats might be to donate a
game to our class for indoor recess or a book to our classroom
or school library. The game or book could be inscribed with your
child’s name and birth date.
Please remember you are not obligated to send in a treat for your
child’s birthday. We sing to each student as a class and I do
have a birthday sticker and pencil for each student.

Speaking of birthdays, may my child pass out party invitations at school?

Sorry no....Children may not distribute birthday invitations at
school as this is against school policy. But a class directory
of names and addresses will be sent home so invites can be
mailed. All birthday invitations need to be mailed or delivered
outside of school.

What is the best way to inform the school that my child will not take the bus home?

If your child will not be taking the bus home after school send a
note to school with your child. Your child will place the note
in the Note Basket and I will notify the office.
If a situation occurs after the school day starts, please phone
the main office @ 847-984-8800. During the school day my phone
does not ring because I am teaching the children. I check my
voice mail AFTER the children have left for the day. If I do not
have something in writing from you that your child is to be
picked up that day or if you have not phoned the office, the
student must ride the bus home. Please be certain you
communicate your transportation needs as soon as you are aware of
them. It is also necessary for you to come into the school
building to sign your child out.

How do I send money for hot lunch to school?

Our hot lunch program works off of a debit card system. One way
to put money into your child's hot lunch account is to pay using
a credit or debit card online at www.dist50.net. You can also
send cash or a check (payable to Woodland School Dist.50) to
school. If you choose to send money to school, please send it in
a sealed envelope clearly marked with your child's name, Mrs.
Congdon, 2nd grade, the amount, and that it is for HOT LUNCH.
*Please note that it takes 2-3 school days for payments to be
reflected online.*

What is the best way to contact you?

You can contact me three different ways. You can call at (847)
984-8894,
you can e mail me at ccongdon@dist50.net, or
you can write a note and send it to school with your child.

~If you would like a fast response, please e mail me first. I
check e mail many times throughout the day and can respond much
faster than a phone call. Also, I keep the phone on "do not disturb"
during the school day so calls do not interrupt our learning. You are
welcome to leave a message, but know that I may not listen to the message
until one of my plan times or the end of the day.

Will there be a snack time during the day?

Yes. In this year's schedule, we are able to have a
short "snack-time" around 11:00.
I cannot stress strongly enough that snacks must be nut free and
as healthy as possible. Items such as fruits, veggies, low-fat
crackers, etc. work best. Potato chips, candy and cookies are
not brain food. Please refrain from sending sweets. Also, please
package snacks appropriately as we will be having a working "snack
time" where independent reading and/or journal writing may occur
so desks will need to be kept as neat as possible. Please remind
your child that snacks should not be traded. Also, if you don't
want to send a snack (for whatever reason) that is OKAY.

If my child is sick, may I pick up the homework they missed?

Of course you can! Please call or email me to arrange a time
for you to come pick up the work. I will have it waiting for
you to pick up in the office.

Can we have homework sent home before we leave for our vacation?

It is school policy NOT to prepare homework in advance.
However, if your child is absent and you would like him/her to
do some type of schoolwork, have your child read a book, write
in a journal, or practice math facts.

Is it alright for my child to miss school?

Unless your child is truly sick, they need to be at school
everyday. Missing school, arriving late or leaving early can be
very disruptive to the child and to the entire class. I
understand that at times, this is unavoidable. However, please
try to make every effort to schedule appointments and vacations
outside of school hours.
