What time does school start and end?
The buses start arriving at 8:35am. Buses are at school by
8:55am. If a bus is late, your child will NOT be considered
tardy. Any student dropped off at school has to be there by
8:55am, or he/she will be marked tardy. This applies even on
field trip days.In the afternoon, classes end at 3:20pm, when the
principal makes the afternoon announcements. Bus calls start at
3:20pm. Buses have usually left the school by 3:40pm, the
official end of the school day.
IMPORTANT NOTE: During the first weeks of school, buses might be
late. This is because students are getting used to their new
buses, and the bus drivers are taking the extra time to check
that everyone is on the correct bus.
What do I do when my child will be absent or late?
Please call the Elementary East Attendance Line at 847-984-8801.
Parents sometimes just inform the classroom teachers. Teachers
forward this information on to the office, but do not always
see/hear the message by the beginning of the school day. This is
because teachers are preparing the room, having meetings, are
copying student work, are having trouble accessing the server
folder, may be absent themselves, etc. To be on the safe side,
PLEASE call the office. Any letters/notes that the students give
to the teacher about absences, tardiness, and parent pick-up are
forwarded to the office. However, second graders are notorious
for leaving notes in their backpacks until 3:25pm, even with
teacher reminders. When in doubt, call the office.
How many students are currently in the class?
We will not know how many students are in our class until the
first week of school is over. That is because some students on
our roster will have moved over the summer, and because students
that have moved to our district might be joining our class at the
last moment.
Can my child bring something to celebrate his/her birthday?
Yes, a birthday is a special day for a second grader. Don't
forget to bring a treat for everyone in the class, including one
hungry teacher and one hungry student teacher!
What if I have a question/concern about my child's lunch account?

will link you to the current lunch menu.
Can I eat lunch with my child?
Yes, just contact the office at (847) 984-8800 a day in advance.
Please look at the 2011-2012 classroom schedule for our lunch
time.
What does DOL, DPP, and WG stand for?
D.O.L. stands for Daily Oral Language. Beginning in the first
few weeks of school, we will have DOL sentences once or twice a
week. These sentences have grammar, spelling, and sentence
structure mistakes. The students will correct these errors whole
group, and always tell why the change was made. As the year goes
on, DOL may be assigned for homework.
DPPs are daily math practice and problems. Some of these are
tricky! Generally, we correct these problems whole group at the
beginning of our daily math class. However, as the year
progresses, DPPs may be assigned for homework. The problems and
strategies in DPPs are a review of the skills we have already
learned in math. Some DPPs will be done in class as assessments.
W.G. stands for Whole Group. This means the paper was discussed
and corrected whole group. DOL and DPPs will usually have this on
top of the papers.
