Hi. My name is Mrs. Teri Yahiro. I moved to the Woodland school district 19
years ago, when my son was a kindergartner. I have worked at Woodland for 15
years. I started off as a parent who wanted to get involved. I volunteered as
a room mom, and realized that I belonged in this environment.
Since that time, I have been an instructional aide for first grade, a
substitute teacher, a long-term substitute, and a classroom teacher. I have
been a 2nd grade teacher for 11 years, and have been in 3 different buildings
and five different rooms!
I still live in the Woodland school district. I am married with two children.
Kevin, 24,is almost done with his Masters Degree. He is a Mechanical Engineer,
and begins work in Naperville in June. Amy, 22, just graduated from the
University of Illinois in Champaign. She plans on becoming a Registered
Dietitian. She will be doing a Dietetic internship with the Hines V.A.
Hospital next year. We have a 15-month-old dog named Maui. She is an obedience
school drop-out! We are not expecting Maui to continue her
education to the college level, but are hopeful that one day she will stop
swallowing socks and chewing on windowsills.
I love teaching second grade, and I hope that it shows!
There are many goals that I try to achieve in my everyday teaching:
***I want every student to be actively involved in learning every day.
***I strive to help students help themselves. I do this by building their
responsibility level as the year progresses. I need parent support to stress
the importance of doing homework and class work.
***I communicate to my students' families so that we can be partners in the
learning process.
***Learning is fun! There is always some new fact to learn, or an exciting
way to learn new material.
