Reading
Your child's main homework is to read 20 minutes every night. Please
start your reading time with the books I send home. (This will start a few
weeks into the school year.) I encourage you to discuss these books with your
child when they are done reading. Small books may be read several times
each. This allows for further practice with fluency and expression.
Sometimes a comprehension, word wall, or other writing activity will
accompany your child's book. I encourage you to help your child with their
homework. However, all written homework should be done in your child's own
handwriting. When your child has finished these activities, feel free to
have them read other books from home. You may also want to read a story book
or chapter book to them.
Math
Math homework will be sent home sporadically starting second quarter.
Some units have more homework then others. The math newsletters that come
home with each new quarter will contain great ideas for additional practice at
home. Math homework should also be done in pencil and returned the next day.
When your child completes their math homework and returns it on time they get
a sticker. Five stickers earns them a prize. :)
Please feel free to contact me with any questions
you may have about your child's homework.
