Classroom News for Week of May 14th-May 18
AND THE RESULTS ARE IN! We are now officially the first and only regular sized classroom to EVER make it in to the Perfect 20 Club! We could never have done it without the help of all the parents who endured our constant phone calls and pleading to get the library books here on time! What a thrill to be not only the first but the only class to receive this honor. So thank you again to the parents who rushed back to school with books on our behalf! Yeah!!
M, N, O, P, Q...all done. We looked great in our many colors, our neckties and necklaces, and our orange attire. We pumped our muscles at Field Day and we really had some great questions for Q day. I can say some of us learned some pretty cool trivia. Next week we will move on to R, S, T, U, and V Days. Check your list to find out what is needed (if anything) on each day. PLEASE remember to send in the printed pictures from Camera Day on Tuesday. This will most likely be our last scrapbook day for the year, so we would like to get those pictures in too.
As I told the class on Thursday...they were, by far, the most well behaved classroom I have EVER had out at Field Day. We all had a great time, we enjoyed the gorgeous weather and were totally pooped out at the end of the day. Nice job, students...YOU ARE THE BEST EVER!
We had our last Junior Achievement lesson with Mr. Winandy and Mr. Marty. We learned about the flow of money and how to make deposits, write checks, and keep a check register. Hopefully your child came home with a cool checkbook that I created to help teach the lesson. Don't be surprised if your child starts asking for a checkbook of their own soon! We really enjoyed having our guests come in and I hope the kids have a better understanding of some things that happen in our community.
In Math, we continued with the Distributive Property of Multiplication and we worked on some cute Multiplication Stories. This next week, we will focus on the short cut multiplication and division problems.
In Social Studies, we started learning about Chicago. Ask your child what they learned about our wonderful city so far and ask them to tell you about the Chicago flag and what each part stands for. This week, the plan is to learn about the Chicago Fire and its importance in our city's history.
We read and enjoyed Me and Uncle Romie in Language Arts. We talked again about the Author's Purpose for writing stories. We focused on conjunctions (and, but, so) in grammar.
Congratulations to Nicole Ulrich who made an awesome Principal for the Day on Friday. We were glad that she was able to spend some time with her old classmates and didn't forget us on her way to the top! Great Job, Nicole!
Please make sure you read your child's Home/School Journal for more details on the week's events. Hope you enjoy this spectacular weekend and we will see everyone back, better than ever, dressed in red tomorrow!
P.S. Don't forget library books are due Monday~
