What time should I try to schedule my child's doctor/dental appointments?

Ideally, of course, it would be after 2:45, but our lunch/recess is from
12:10-12:55 p.m. so that would also work. See the schedule page to find out
when our core subjects are.

Do you assign homework every night?

Typically, students will have homework Mon. - Thu.
Homework is designed either as a review of material from that day's lessons or
as a preview for things to come. Use your discretion as parents regarding
amounts (more or less etc.) and reassure students that they simply need to try
their best!

How many projects do you assign?

There is a book report and mini social studies project due each quarter. I
try to make it so the items/supplies can already be found at home so there is
a limit of things to purchase (1 tri-fold board). There may be others for
science so keep in touch with Mr. Huinker for that information. Students are
usually given ~1 month's notice to complete the projects.

Is there detention?

I will hold a lunch/recess detention in my classroom if necessary.

Is there a home reading log that you require?

This year we are focusing on the 'Book-It' program and other incentive
programs. Students are not required to document their book titles, but are
going to start keeping track of minutes per month. I hope that you always
encourage your child to read at home for at least 20 min./night, however. They need to know that reading
can be for learning and for pleasure. Those students who read the most, tend
to score very well on tests. I notice that this and parental support at home
make a very significant difference in a child's academic career. Thank you
for making my job easier!! :)
