Salvete! (which means welcome in Latin, the language of the Ancient Romans)
This year in Social Studies you will be studying many different aspects of
Social Studies. We will start off the year studying geography. We will learn
about the five themes of geography and how to read a map and the different
types of maps. After that we will start to look at our world today. We will
learn what culture is and learn about different cultures of the world.
Included in this unit we will learn about the world's population and different
political and economic systems throughout the world.
After geography we will be learning about many different ancient
civilizations. Some of the civilizations we will be studying are:
Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages. Throughout these
chapters we will also be working on our Civilization Project (more information
will come in November).
