Seventh grade general music is a seven-week music appreciation course that looks at how music
developed through time. Throughout history, people have expressed their understanding of their
world through the arts.
Seventh grade students:
• Explore how music developed through time – 1600 through 1900
• Examine the various periods and styles of music:
• Baroque Era
• Classical Era
• Romantic Era
• Gain insight into the ways in which music reflects the values,
beliefs and interest of the society in which it was created
• Examine the lives, and music of composers such as:
• Bach
• Handel
• Vivaldi
• Haydn
• Mozart
• Beethoven
• Tchaikovsky
