How often will we have homework?
Students should expect to have math homework 4-5 days each week.
Can we use pen in Math?
Pen is only used to correct homework in class. Everything else is to be done in PENCIL.
How can I earn extra credit?
Extra credit is available periodically. I will list E.C. on the board and on my website.
Why do we have to learn this?
Ask me in class! Every concept we learn has a purpose.
What if my homework is late?
Homework can be turned in one day late for 50% credit. For example; if homework due on Monday was worth 8 points, you can earn 4
points for turning it in on Tuesday. After that, HW is worth minimal points.
What if I am absent?
Check the absent calendar when you return to class. You can also
check the homework hotline or my website at home. You have one
day for each
day you were absent to make up the missed work. For example; if
you were
absent Monday, pick up your work on Tuesday and it is due
Wednesday.
How/When can I get extra help if I don't understand the lesson?
I can work with students after school (with advanced notice). I can also help you during class or occasionally during advisory..
What if I am unprepared for class?
If this happens once or twice, no big deal. Everyone forgets
sometimes.
However, if I start seeing a pattern of being unprepared for
class, you could
receive a demerit or other consequnce. You will get 2 free passes. CHECK THE LIST
BY MY DOOR
TO SEE WHAT YOU NEED FOR CLASS EACH DAY.
How do I receive a perfect score on my homework?
You need to answer the homework questions with 90% or greater accuracy. 80%-89% is still an excellent score. You should use the notes and practice problems done in class to help you with the homework.
How can I check my grades?
Call district office and ask for a password for "family
access". This will
allow you to check your child's grade on specific assignments and
their
overall grade! You can see if your child is turning in their
homework and
everything!
How should I study for quizzes or tests?
Do NOT wait to study the day before a test. That system rarely
works.
Every few days, DO review the notes you took in class, READ the
examples
done in the textbook and/or COMPLETE study guide problems
provided by me.
If something still does not make sense, ask a parent or ME!
These are
responsible ways to study for success.
What if I don't find Mr. Osharow's math jokes funny?
That has never happened. All of Mr. O's jokes are hilarious.
Trust me....

How is my grade calculated?
Grades are based on points earned divided by total points
possible.
Example: You score a 8 out of 8 on homework and a 12 out of 16
on a quiz.
You would have 20 points out of a total 24. 20 divided by 24 is
0.833,
which is 83%. Points accumulate throughout the quarter.
How can I improve my grade?
Completing homework is the best way to improve your grade. You
should also complete any extra credit given. Do not wait until
the last week on the quarter to try and improve your grade!
What if I don't understand the homework given that night?
Try to answer any problems you know how to do. Circle any
problems you don't understand. You should also go to the online
textbook. There are links to videos that help explain the
concept.
How do I get to the online textbook?
Go to my webpage. Under the category "annoucements", I will write the
username and password to be able to access the textbook online!
Pre-Algebra I's textbook is NOT online, but Pre-Algebra II's textbook IS online.
How do I learn a new concept if I was absent from class?
You NEED to see me for help. This can be done during academic
advisory, during lunch, or occasionally during class time. It is
YOUR responsibility to do this!
What if I lose or damage my textbook?
You will need to pay for a new one, obviously! Please use a book
jacket to help protect the textbook. Each textbook is either
brand new or only been used for one year.
Can I bring a snack in 7th grade?
Yes. We will probably have a snack during Core 2. A healthy snack and water are good choices. No cookies, pastries, etc. If you forget to bring your snack, you don't have a snack for the day.
