Class Expectations

Foods and Nutrition

  • Arrive to class on time; prepared with pocket folder for this class, pencil or pen, assignment notebook and class handouts.
  • Every week you will have an opportunity to cook if all work is completed. Classroom time will be spent discussing nutrition, health problems, food preparation and safety, career options, and consumer issues.
  • Bring a short newspaper, magazine or Internet article (not a recipe or advertisement) about nutrition, agriculture, food preparation, good health, or the business of food every  FRIDAY. These articles are due even if absent, on a field trip or at band practice. Read the article and be ready to discuss it in class. Make sure your name is on it -- this is collected for 5 points. Web links are posted on this site.
  • FAVORITE FAMILY RECIPE -- must be typed or carefully handwritten in INK on a full sheet of paper. It must include ingredients required, preparation methods and cooking time. Also include who this recipe is from and why you chose it. This will be included in our class recipe book.
  • Reading Labels, Fast Food Choices, First Aid, The New Food Pyramid, Advertising Messages, Career Ideas, Meal Planning, and Feeding My Family are all activities and projects done in class.
  • Community Service Projects -- Sixth Grade will make dog biscuits for an animal shelter. Seventh Grade will collect books and make kaleidoscope crayons for Kid's Korner at the Lake County Courthouse.
  • After preparing desserts and discussing manners, we will share our snacks with the administration, support staff and community members.
  • There are several opportunities for extra credit offered.
