Character Building

In our class, students have been learning how to be good citizens. We talk about kindness and respect towards all people. We search for ways to practice showing kindness in our everyday lives. We are beginning a new step in our program. Students will be taking a series of self-evaluations to see where their strengths and weaknesses are. We will use the information from these evaluations to focus our lessons. The children will be learning that the character that they become is like a muscle that needs exercising. When they exercise their responsibility muscles, for instance, those areas of their character become stronger. Each week, our students will focus on an area of their character to improve and exercise. A calendar will be sent in their folders to record actions that have been performed. We will visit these calendars on a regular basis to cheer on the efforts that were made to make our characters stronger.
