Mrs. Heitz has taught in numerous public & independent schools in Kentucky
and Indiana. Most recently she taught Spanish at St. Thomas More’s Middle
School and was employed by West Lake’s “Kids on the Block” Special Ed
program, serving all schools in the Lake Central and Munster School
districts.
Born & reared in Latin America, she learned English at age 10, when she came
to live in the United States two years. At age 12 she went back to Latin
America to attend Middle and High School in a finishing boarding school.
When she returned to the US, it was to attend the University of Kentucky
where she received her Bachelors and added French to round out her language
skills.
In addition to teaching Spanish, Mrs. Heitz has written three etiquette
training books and was the author of the newspaper column “ETI-KIDS,
Courtesy for Children and Teens”. She has been the source for numerous
radio broadcasts and countless newspaper articles regarding etiquette.
To date Heitz has had a 14-year relationship with FRA- Incorporating a
Spanish Club when the language wasn’t taught school-wide, she was the first
Spanish teacher when the language was first initiated with the Young
Scholars program, taught multiple etiquette courses to all age groups, and
has had her children attend the school.
Having learned a second language at an early age, and a third one during
college, has given Mrs. Heitz a unique perspective on the most effective
manner to present children with a new language so that they will readily
accept it.
