Middle School Trip to Los Angeles 2010-2011

What is a trip to the West coast without a stop at In-N-Out burger for a quick bite!

We visited Santa Monica Beach and even dipped our toes in the Pacific Ocean.

After chilling at the beach we took a stroll along the Santa Monica pier for some shopping and sightseeing.

At the pier we even tried the crazy rides!

One of the highlights of the trip was a special effects make-up workshop at Cinema Secrets.

You can see that the make-up was a "hit" with the students!

Students had a private tour of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. We got to check out 84 years of the famous hand and foot prints by various stars.

Our trip to Los Angeles included a day at Universal Studios and the Citywalk.

We visited the Getty Art Museum and spent the morning viewing amazing artwork and the beautiful environment of the $1.3 billion grounds and buildings.

A single white iris boldly draws our attention in this vivid and energetic work painted by van Gogh in 1889.

Of course we had to visit Rodeo Drive and all the magnificent shops and boutiques.

Did you know that the La Brea tar pits are right smack in the middle of an urban setting and that tar still bubbles up from the ground?

Students were able to see an actual archeological dig site at La Brea tar pits and then visited the museum that houses the over 55,000 fossils that have be found there.

A visit to the wax museum let the students get up and personal with many of the "stars" of Hollywood.

Many people don't even realize that next to Venice Beach there are amazing homes built on shallow canals - designed many years ago to replicate the beauty of the original canals of Venice, Italy.

A trip to the Hollywood Bowl Ampitheatre had some students on stage testing the acoustics of the facility and others testing their camera skills.

Our trip also included a visit to the Griffith Observatory to watch a beautiful sunset, a shopping trip for a picnic lunch to nosh on at Venice Beach, and an afternoon at UCLA. . .of course we documented it all with lots of pictures!
