MS Study the Vietnam War

"T", a sixth grade student, brought in a friend of the family, John Evorik, to speak with the middle school.  His expertise is the Vietnam War.  He volunteered for service in 1967 and spent a year over there fighting.  Mr. Evorik shared his pictures, medals, and stories.  He gave the kids a true account of war from the perspective of a soldier.  What was discussed would not be seen in textbooks.  In fact, some of the stories were chilling, while others were very uplifting.  Either way, his talk was priceless.  We can’t thank him enough for taking the time out of his busy day and bringing up those hurtful memories, so that our kids could be better informed.

2012 STATE CHAMPIONS

Beginning in January, the FRA Math Bowl Team began meeting once a week after school for practice sessions.  They also spent many working lunches/recesses sharpening their math skills to prepare themselves for the Math Bowl competition.  The Purdue University sponsored competition is based on the Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics.  The standards utilized for this year’s event focused on the following math concepts: Number Sense, Computation, Algebra and Functions, and Problem Solving.

The FRA Math Team competed in the Indiana M.A.T.H. Bowl Competition (Math Academic Teams for Hoosiers) on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Hal E. Clark Middle School in St. John.  A total of 15 area schools competed. The competition consisted of 4 rounds with 7 questions per round.  Three team members competed as a group in each round with alternates available to enter after the 4thquestion.
