Where can I get a recommendation for a new book?
The Library web site under "New Books" provides a review of a
recommended book each month. Included is the reading level and
A.R. point value.
How many days can a book be checked out?
Grades Jr. Kgn. through 1st may check out a book for 7
days. Grades 2nd through 8th have a 14 day check out period.
What is the overdue book fine per day?
The fee for an overdue book is five cents per day.
How does the FRA Readathon work?
The school readathon begins in late August and runs through
April. The school year is divided into 3 sessions. Students
must fill out a Readathon Sheet, recording book title, author,
and minutes read and have it signed by a parent. All
participants are treated to an ice cream social in May. Special
recognition is given to those students who participated in all 3
sessions.
What does the curriculm include?
The curriculum includes units which tie into social studies,
history, or language arts. Oftentimes, the topics reinforce
classroom material. Also, units may focus on the works of a
particular author. The read alouds are followed by a related
craft, game or activity. Grades 1 through 4 work on library
skills which include learning the 10 categories of the Dewey
Decimal System, using dictionaries, atlases, and almanacs.
