The highlights of the library for April included National Library Week and the Scholastic Book Fair.  During Library Week, students listened to books about reading and the library.  These books were read:  The Great Dewey Hunt (Buzzeo), Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians ( Hopkins) , Story County (Anderson),  and The Wonderful Book (Gore).  After the readings, students focused on library skills:   learning the difference between fiction and nonfiction, using the alphabet in the library, and playing "Library Lingo", a game to identify library terms and definitions.  On Friday of that week,   everyone put aside their regular work to have a "Read-in"at various locations in (and out) of the building.
The Scholastic Book Fair's theme this year was a "Luau".  In keeping with this theme, students had fun in participating in a coloring contest or a tropical fruit candy-guessing contest.   The winner from each grade was given a prize.  Each classroom also played Book Fair Bingo, marking pictures of book fair books on the classroom card.  The classrooms winning the bingo games were granted a "No Uniform Day".
The long anticipated book fair created much excitement as students and parents came to buy brand new books for their personal collections.  The fair provided excitement about reading and was a success, as $1,500 in cash and $510 in books was earned for our school library.   Many thanks for everyone's support!
Twelve FRA Eagles earned a total of $1,064 in the Lake County Public Library Readathon;  of that amount $355 will be awarded to our library.  Way to go, Readers!
