I am Sue Troppman and I will be the FRA Librarian this year. I would
like to give you some information about myself so that you may be more
familiar with my qualifications and plans for this year.
EDUCATION
*Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, Indiana University
*Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education, Purdue Universiy
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
*Librarian at Forest Ridge Academy for eleven years
*Elementary Teacher for four years
*Substitute Teacher for grades Kgn.-4th gr., Library/Media Centers, and
Remedial Reading (ten yrs.)
*Member of THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION
FUTURE PLANS
*Attend seminars for professional growth
*Create a Resource Center atmosphere through interesting displays and
library classes
*Read aloud children's literature in connection with a particular topic
(dinsosaurs, pirates, Ancient Egypt, Medieval Times); also units highlighting
a particular children's author) This is followed by a related activity or
craft.
*Provide read alouds and activities for the Young Scholars which
correspond to their weekly classroom themes
*Expand the ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM
*Teach library skills appropriate for grades Jr.Kgn.-5th gr.
*Provide "new book" reviews on the FRA Website
*Continue to read and discuss award-winning and classic literature with
students
*Provide a special program for National Children's Book Week in November
*Have special activities for National Library Week in April
*Hold the Scholastic Book Fair in April
My mission is to provide an environment where children are excited about
learning and reading. It is my goal to expose them to good quality
literature which would include both classical and recent writings.
