NewsFlash

Dear Parents,

Just a few reminders and information....

We finished reading "Sign of the Beaver" last week and watched the movie in class.  As a culminating activity, the students are responsible for writing a paper comparing the book and the movie.  It was interesting to see how aspects of the movie differed from the book.  The students have been busy comparing and contrasting the two using a Venn Diagram.  This organizational tool will help them as they begin writing their paper.   Students will begin each paragraph with a main idea and continue with supporting details.  They are also expected to use time-order words.  This ties in with what we are learning in Language Arts.   Students will not only be graded on content, but complete sentences, capitalization,  punctuation, and neatness as well.  **NOTE: We are taking a break from our vocab book this week so that we can focus on this assignment.

TOMORROW is picture day!!  Please make sure your child has their envelopes turned in tomorrow.  If you do not have an envelope to order pictures, please stop in the office first thing in the morning to fill one out.  They will not take late payments.

FRIDAY is Family Math Night.  Please arrive promptly at 6:00 pm.  Also, make sure your child is wearing a shirt that is the color of their team.  Students are NOT to come alone to math night.  They must be supervised by their parent.

PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST:  All pumpkins must be taken straight to the gym Friday morning.  They will be on display throughout the day.  They are to go home at the end of Family Math Night.  If you will not be there, please make arrangements for someone to take it home for you.  :)

Conference forms with times and dates will be sent home this week.  Please confirm that these times are okay ASAP.

Tomorrow, your child will be receiving information about a Timeline Project for Social Studies.  This project needs to be completed entirely at home.  Be sure to ask your child about it tomorrow!  It will be due on Monday, October 26th.

Next week, we will be reading from our reading texts.  Our focus for the week will be comprehension, main idea, and supporting details.  Therefore, your child has PLENTY of time this week to work on their AR goals!!  There is only 2 weeks left for them to meet their goal!  Continue to have them read, read, read!  :)

Thanks for your support!
