READING RENAISSANCE PROGRAM (AR)
We will be using the Reading Renaissance program as part of our curriculum. There are many benefits to the Reading Renaissance program:
*Reading Renaissance is an individualized program that meets each students needs at his
or her own reading level.
*Reading Renaissance seeks to instill the pride of accomplishment in all readers.
*Reading Renaissance allows the teacher to work individually with each student.
*Reading Renaissance provides the opportunity for students to practice the skill of
reading.
*Reading Renaissance makes reading purposeful and rewarding for student in a personal way.
*Reading Renaissance is a program in which students select books they wish to read based on their
reading levels. Then, they take computer-generated quizzes on the books.
Policies and Procedures:
1. Students will take the Stars reading test at the beginning of each grading peiod to determine
reading level. I will set a reading range for each student based on the Stars test and past
reading scores.
2. Students are expected to have a novel with them at all times during the school day.
Students goals will be based on twenty minutes of reading daily. We will have reading
practice daily. There are many other opportunities for students to read during the school day
including free time in class. If a student does not obtain twenty minutes of reading time
during the school day, he or she is expected to complete the time outside school.
3. I will meet with each student once or twice a week during Status of the Class. During
this time, I will discuss the book with the student and make sure that he or she is staying on
task.
4. Students will keep a Reading Renaissance folder. This folder will contain the classroom
reading plan, guidelines and expectations, quiz reports, and a reading log. This folder will be
sent home periodically for parents to review.
5. We will have prize drawings and class rewards periodically throughout the year!
6. Parents may check their child's AR progress by going to the GSS web site.
Grading Procedure
Quiz Average and Point Goal determined by what percentage of his or her goal a student achieves.
Where to Get Books

*AR bookfinder is a great resource for finding books that are appropriate for the
student's reading level and interests. The link can be found on the GSS web site or under the
