Physical Education Guidelines
Grades (6th - 8th)
2010-2011
Supplies: Students are expected to bring the following to class:
PE Uniform that has been purchased from school --
• heather gray T-shirt with GSS logo
• hunter green mesh shorts with GSS logo
• socks
• tennis shoes with laces (no hiking boots)
• Girls must pull their hair back in a pony tail; however, if the
length does not allow for a pony tail then a headband may be worn.
• No earrings/If earrings are worn the student will be unable to
participate that day and 3 points will be deducted from their grade.
Taping the ears is not permitted.
• No watches during physical activity
Homework: Students will have 8 skills tests (usually 2 per quarter) and
written tests (usually 1 per quarter.) Students will need to
practice the skills test during class and at home to improve
their performance.
A description of each skills test and the test dates are listed
on my web page. teacherweb.com/IN/Good ShepherdSchool/Mrs.Ward/
Students will also be given a detailed hand-out on the sport we
are playing at that time. This hand-out along with playing the
sport will help each student prepare for the written tests.
Injury Policy:
A student is given 4 consecutive gym classes to miss due to
an injury. If they are unable to participate on the 5th gym
class they will need to complete a typed 2 page paper on the
sport/activity that we are doing at that time. The paper will
be graded and count as the student’s participation grade. If a
student is unable to take a skills test (due to an injury) then I
will double or triple their written test in place of their skills test.
Grading Policy: Every time a student fails to dress out during the nine-
week grading period, an academic notice is issued and
3 points will be deducted from their grade. 40 % of the
student’s grade will be based on their effort, attitude,
participation (dressing out), sportsmanship, and improve-
ment during exercises and other activities. 25% of
their grade will be based on written tests and 35% on skills
tests.
