For Parents

---A large number of students routinely do NOT complete their homework assignments on time. Some of them turn work in the next day for a reduced grade, but unfortunately, many of them never turn anything in at all.

---If a student eventually turns in an assignment that is too late to receive a grade, I enter one point (1) in the gradebook. The assignment only earned one point, but at least it was completed and evaluated. I need to be able to distinguish between work that is never turned in at all from work that is turned in too late to receive a grade. Recording a 1 allows me to do that.

---In addition to the 1 for very late work, there are several other abbreviations that parents may see when reviewing their children's grades on PowerSchool.

  • Checkmark = a paper turned in but not yet graded.
  • L=paper was late but accepted for a grade
  • CH = cheating of any kind.
  • NTI = nothing at all was turned in or the work was so minimal that it was only an attempt to say "I turned it in." (eg. Only one or two questions have been answered.)
  • EX = the student is excused from the asignment and it does not have to be made up (Grades for reading aloud or participating in class discussions are typical grades that may be excused if the student is absent.)
  • ADD = student was Absent Day assignment was Due
  • ADA = student was Absent Day work was Assigned
