February in Second Grade

Westward Ho!  Second graders have stepped back in time to the 1880's. We will pack a covered wagon, build a log cabin and get a peek at life as a pioneer child.  We will be reading Little House in the Big Woods and the picture books that accompany each chapter.  In writing we will examine the use of voice in writing. We will begin to write our book for the Young Author's conference. Lines and shapes will be our focus for math.  In Social Studies we will be reading and making maps. Habitats around the world will keep us busy in Science. In Religion we will explore our church's home and our parish's history.
