What time is lunch?
The upper grades (3rd - 5th) will have lunch AFTER recess. So
lunch will begin around 11:45.
What time is recess?
The 3rd and 4th graders' recess will begin at 11:20.
Do you have snacktime?
Yes! Students make bring a healthy, simple snack. Each of my
grades has a 10 minute snack & stretch break around
midmorning. Snacks are to be kept in either our
classroom "cooler" or classroom "fridge."
Are the kids allowed to have waterbottles?
All students are initially given the privilege of waterbottles.
Most students will keep that privilege. Those students that
prove to be distracted by (or cause distraction with) their water
bottles lose said privilege. Water bottles must be filled prior
to morning announcements, and can be refilled after lunch/recess.
May I send treats for my child's birthday?
Of course we would love to celebrate your child's birthday. You
may either leave treats with me in the morning, or deliver them
during the lunch/recess break. Actual celebration times vary per
daily schedules, so please let me know ahead of time so that
I can plan accordingly.
Can I get missed work for my child when they are absent?
The short answer is "yes, of course." The specifics are that
papers accumulate throughout the day, but I need to send
information regarding such. This requires my time. I often give
my lunch/recess time to students that need extra help, there are
some days when I have no breaks (reality of a split or large
class anywhere nowadays), and I need to see that all my students
are properly dismissed. Because of such, I generally have absent
work ready & waiting by 4:00.
Can I get work early when we go on vacation?
The answer to this question is yes and no. Yes, I will give you
math assignments. I always encourage students to continue
reading and earning AR points as well. Other subject
requirements are not as clearcut. Where we are curriculum-wise
and what is going on in our school as a whole are factors. If it
is doable, I am happy to accomodate. Some work, however, may
need to be completed after the vacation. Some work simply cannot
be made-up (i.e. science labs).
Where do I find guide words?
Use a dictionary to find guide words. When you find a word in
the dictionary, the two words in bold, at the very top of the
page, are called guide words. All words on a page fall
alphabetically between the guide words.
