I am originally from Carroll, Iowa. I never lived on the farm although I
often visited relatives that lived on the farm. I am one of five children
and my mother still lives in Carroll just blocks from the house that my dad
built. I spent my college years in Atchison, Kansas, high on the hill and
then received my masters from Benedictine in 1998. I reside in downtown
Kansas City, Kansas, with my husband. We have two children, both of whom
are married, three wonderful grandsons and reside in the metropolitan
community. Our third child was sticken with lupus the summer of 2010 and now
resides in heaven with our Savior. I feel like I have been teaching since my
little sisters and brother were born. I have been in the field of education
for 40 years with the last eleven of them being at Holy Name. My wish and
hope is to serve the children and families of this community in the future
years.
Because I work with the older students of the school, I feel it is part of
my job to prepare them for high school. I also want them to learn about
themselves and what they are capable of. The students need to learn what
their strengths are and that the fact that asking for help is not a sign of
weakness but strength. By knowing and admitting you can't do all things
better than anyone else actually shows maturity and power.
