School Is Out For The Summer!!!!
Summer is a great time to renew, relax, and have some family fun. Don’t forget to also keep your brain active. There are many things you can do to keep your skills sharp after a school year of hard work. Dream Big and challenge yourself to keep your skills sharp.
· Remember to read daily. Reading 20 minutes a day will insure continued progress and success in sixth grade. Join the public library summer reading program.
· I have enrolled each of you in a program called Book Adventure. There you can take tests on books you have read to see that you understood the book. The questions are just like AR. Check the site to see if the book you are reading has a test. You can earn small prizes on the site. You can earn small prizes from me next year. Reach it athttp://www.bookadventure.com/Home.aspx.

· On my website on the math page there are several great sites to keep your math facts sharp. In sixth grade they expect you to recall the multiplication facts to 12 very quickly. Honor Points allows you to drill, practice, and bring back printed drills to me this fall to show you worked and earn a small prize. You can reach it athttp://www.honorpoint.com/. · Study Island will be up and running all summer. Keep working on the reading and math skills you have not yet mastered. You can then move to the sixth grade skills to get a jump on them. Reach it atwww.studyisland.com.
· That Quiz is a great website to practice math skills and geography skills. Students can create their own quizzes on various math topics to challenge their skills. Reach it atwww.thatquiz.org.
· SpellingCityis a great site to practice spelling skills. There are several weeks of spelling lists we did not complete this year. Also there are list of words for each grade level. You can reach it atwww.spellingcity.com.
· Internet4Classrooms is a great site for all subject areas. There are games, videos, and fun lessons to participate in. You can reach it athttp://www.internet4classrooms.com/k12links.htm.
· Math Decimals is a great site for working with fractions and decimals. These skills are needed in sixth grade. You can reach it athttp://www.decimalsquares.com/dsGames/

· Teacher Pages on our own school sitewww.usd239.orghas many links to websites that we help you review skills.
· Unused text book workbooks have been sent home. These are a great way to work on skills in math, reading, English, and spelling.
· All the sites mentioned above can be accessed from my web site. If you are having trouble locating a site give me an email and I will help you out.
I am sending home a page with all the students’ user names and passwords for all the sites that they are enrolled in. If you lose yours over the summer just email me and I can email it right to you. Also I will be monitoring all the sites to see if you are Dreaming Big and keeping your skills sharp. I will send you little words of encouragement to keep working from time to time. A little extra effort this summer can start sixth grade out great. Impress your sixth grade teach with what you know. It will make next year a whole lot easier.
