What supplies do I need for class?

Check out the supply list. Because I use handouts, it is important you have
a 3 ring binder. You will probably also want to have hole savers to use if
your paper tears.

What is the homework policy?

Homework is due at the beginning of the class the day it is due. Full
credit is only given to homework that is turned in on time. Work is docked 10% if the
student comes in after school the day the work is due or the next day if arrangements are made
and is docked 50% if turned in before the test. Work not done by the day of the test will
be done during test time and the student will take the test after school on their own time.

How do I study for tests?

The workbook is an excellent study guide and we will mark the most important
items to know before the test. On my quia.com homepage which can be
accessed by going to Jr. High teachers and my name on the school's web page,
you will find activities to help you review for the test which include
vocabulary flashcards, matching games, etc. You will also have notes to use
and the review questions in your book are great to help you study.

How long do I need to study for a test?

I recommend that you study 10 minutes each night of the week to learn the
vocabulary and new concepts as we go. This way you know what we are talking
about in class and understand the activities. Then before a test you should
study 15 minutes each night for 3 nights. It is important to have someone
quiz you to see if you know the information and study additionally on those
things you don't know yet.

How can I get hold of the teacher for help?

You can contact me by phone or text at 785-826-8942 before 10:00 to get help with
homework in the evenings. If you can not reach me, come in and see me before school.
I am also available after school.

How do I get my assignments when I've been gone?

I recommend you always try to get as much of your work done as possible when
you are gone so you do not get behind. You can call the school and pick up
assignments, call a classmate, call me at home, or check out to see if the
assignment is posted on the class page.

How do I become a member of Science Olympiad?

There will be a meeting for interested students as soon as the new events
and rules are received sometime in late September. Anyone is welcome to
help as a researcher and manager or actual competitor. To be eligible to
participate you must have a C or above in all of your classes and do
adequate preparation for the meet. I will decide on who does which events
based on interest of the student, preparation by the student, schedule of the
events, and needs of the team. Researchers and managers are an important
part of the team and are taken to the meet as long as they continue to help
with event preparations throughout the season. Their are dues of $5.00 to help
provide needed supplies.
