5th Grade Book Report Genre List
Each student is required to read 600 minutes a month which equates to
approximately 20 minutes a day. In addition to keeping their reading logs,
the students are required to do monthly book reports. This is a list of the
expected genres for the school year. Book report forms will be sent out some
time at the beginning of each month.
September- general fiction
October- mystery (Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys)
November- Nonfiction
December- Folktale or Fairytales (Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill)
January- Historical Fiction (Dear America, My Brother Sam is Dead)
February- Biography/Autobiography
March- Adventure (My Side of the Mountain, Wanderer)
April- Science Fiction/Fantasy (Harry Potter, Narnia)
May- Poetry/rhymes
