General Information In an effort to instill personal responsibility in our sixth grade students, they will not be given permission to use the telephone or call for forgotten items (textbooks, assignments, etc.). If items are dropped off by a parent during the school day, those items should be left in the office labeled with the student’s name and room code.
Homework Student achievement rises significantly when teachers regularly assign homework and students complete the work. The sixth grade teachers will assign homework which relates directly to the class work and extends the student’s learning beyond the classroom. Students are given experience in following directions, making judgments and comparisons, and developing responsibility and self-discipline. Parents should take an interest in homework activities by providing a private study area, setting time expectations, and communicating regularly with their child. This assistance will make homework a valuable learning experience. Students will bring home their corrected papers to review in order to help student for tests.
Suggestions for out-of-class study times: 1. Time allotment should, on the average, be sixty minutes. 2. The place for studying should be quiet and free of distractions. 3. If specific tasks are not specified, time should be spent reviewing concepts.
