Mrs. Jenkins was born and raised in the rural community of Perry, Kansas.
However, her mother grew up in the Ottawa area and she became familiar with
the community throughout her upbringing. After attending Emporia State
University, she accepted a teaching position at Ottawa High and with her
husband, Tyler, moved to the community.
The Jenkins have since worked to immerse themselves in the community, working
with area youth and volunteering in the community. As you may know, their
family consists of their daughter, Morgan, and beloved cat, Kibbles.
Mrs. Jenkins enjoys reading, bike riding, scrap booking, watching movies,
playing softball, and being outdoors and with family when she is not in the
classroom.
As a teacher of the social sciences, I see it as my job to encourage students
to not simply memorize dates, places, and terms, but to analyze events in
order to form their own opinions of the world.
We live in a society where we have access to information about history with
the touch of a button- being able to comprehend, analyze, and synthesize that
information in connection to today's society are skills that not every
individual walks into the classroom with. My goal is to urge students to build
upon these skills so that they can use them throughout their lives and
experiences.
Additionally, I see myself as a mentor, coach, and source of support for our
students. The activities, assignments, and assessments in my class are meant
to advance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of all both within and beyond
my classroom. I want students to understand that my interest in their success
and development extends beyond the door to my classroom.
