Theme: Go On A ReadAbout!
" Whether young readers prefer to find a
corner and 'wander away with the pixies', or grab their 'mates' and their
'swags' and head for 'the back of beyond', they'll find something in the
library to carry them there.
'No worries!' In 'the Land Down Under', it's
all 'Dinky-Di!' "

Wow is time flying!! I can't believe we
are in the middle of our first nine weeks already. I hope that the kids are
having fun and enjoying their time that they get when they are in the library
we have a read a lot of books and done a lot of "boring" worksheets to help
them learn about the library.
I have only had the Kindergarteners a
couple times and they have been wonderful, just this week we read "If you
take a Mouse to School" which we thought would be a pretty silly
thing to do! We also started talking about what is in the library and where to
find things.
1st Graders have had a treasure hunt where
they each got to show each other where certain things in the library are
located, we have read the books, "Coco Makes Music", "Does a Kangaroo have
a Mother Too", and "Book,Book,Book"
We have also been working on our library
manners and learning what you can and can't do in the library.
2nd Graders are doing really well now
after a bumpy start, we read "Coco Makes Music", "Does a Kangaroo have
a Mother Too", "No, David", and "Morris Goes to School".
We have covered quite a bit about how to behave in the library, how to chose a
book, we have learned about Title & Copyright pages and the Table of Contents,
as well as parts of a book. We are currently working on where to find fiction
books by using the alphabet as our guide.
3rd Graders have been doing Excellent!!!
They got to make Outback Wood Necklaces, have a nonfiction scavenger hunt, and
learned about what's in the library
We also read "Cloudy with a Chance
of Meatballs" and did a cool wild weather activity with it. We have
also read, "Amelia Bedelia, Bookworm", and "How to be a Nature Detective"
4th Graders have been working on fiction
and nonfiction books and how to arrange them by the call numbers. Some books
we have read are: " Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", "The Librarian from
the Black Lagoon", and "The Night I Followed
the Dog".
5th Graders also got to make Outback Wood
Necklaces and we are working on researching skills. We have read about coral
reefs, and the fiction books, "The
Librarian from the Black Lagoon", and "The Night I Followed the Dog."

I am very excited to get to know all of our young
readers, I look forward to a great year as we "go on our readabout". It will
be great fun, the library will have a Coral Reef Reading Corner as well as
other little Australian themed areas that will make any day a "G'day to Read!"
There will be a Great Barrier Reef Display as well as Aussie Animals on
display around the library. We will have lots of games and contests throughout
the year and we will be making many arts and crafts such as didgeridoo's,
creature crossing signs, and name tags just to name a few!
