What's Happening...Part 6

3RD GRADE MUSIC

The 3rd grades have been learning to read notes on the treble clef.  Do you know what a mnemonic is?  It is a "hook," or little saying to help you remember information.  The kids start with a mnemonic to learn the line notes on the staff.  "Every Good Boy Does Fine"........sound familiar?  A song with the same title was a great hit as it contained some other very creative EGBDF'!
Can you come up with any other mnemonics for the lines (EGBDF) of the notes of the treble clef?

2ND GRADE MUSIC

The 2nd graders are really stretching their music vocabulary.  They are learning some really big words, such as glissando, crescendo, decrescendo, diminuendo, and pentatonic scale.
See if your child can tell you what those words mean.  2nd grade continues to work on their solfege note reading skills.  They have learned, if DO is on a line, MI and SO are on the lines directly above.  If DO is on a space, MI and SO are on the spaces directly above.  One of the highlights in 2nd grade music is singing two old folk songs, "What Did Delaware?" and "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More."

1ST GRADE MUSIC

The 1st grades continue to add to their musical knowledge and skills by learning notes and reading music using solfege syllables.  They know that if SO is on a line, MI is on the line below, or if SO is on a space, MI is on the space below, and LA is always above SO.
Ask your child about their recent experience playing steady beat patterns on the bass xylophone with a song called "24 Robbers," one of their favorites!
