What's Happening in Music

In music class, students are reviewing two basic concepts in music-beat and
rhythm. Beat is a steady pulse that can be felt in all music. It never
changes. Rhythm is the long and short sounds and silences found in music-for
the most part, it matches the syllables of the words in a song. Music notes,
rests, and their corresponding values are being learned and reviewed.

Ask your child to explain beat and rhythm to you. Can they tell you the
difference? Find a favorite song from the radio, or CD, or MP3 player.
Practice tapping the steady beat, and then try clapping the rhythm.

Last Friday, students put their music note knowledge to use as they played
Boomwhackers. Did you hear about your child's experience playing the
Boomwhackers?
