Please be advised: Some of our families have received letters from companies
inviting them to financial aid/scholarship presentations that promise to
help them find money to help defray the cost of college. Please know that
all sources of financial aid/scholarship are equally available to all. These
companies have no greater ability to access resources than school counselors
or students and parents themselves. If you have to pay money to get money,
it's most likely a scam. Millions of dollars are spent by anxious parents
annually with no financial benefit and at additional expense. The Federal
Trade Commission is continually working to prevent these unscrupulous
companies from taking advantage of well-meaning families.
INFORMATION &/OR APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING SCHOLARSHIPS
IN THE COLLEGE ROOM OF THE SMS COUNSELING CENTER. They are listed
chronologically by due date. For those scholarships whose due date is listed
as 2007, this year's application has not yet been received in this office.
KCMBF (Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation) Constitution Day Essay Project
Best essay - The central thesis must answer the question- “Several states
have introduced bills this year defining cyber-bullying as: “Any ongoing use
of electronic mail, text messaging, social networking websites, or any other
form of electronic communication on or off school grounds, with the intention
of causing harm or serious emotional distress to students or school
personnel.” The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads, in
part: “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech…” The
Kansouri constitution also contains similar language in Article I, Section 8
that reads: “That no law shall be passed impairing the freedom of speech, no
matter by what means communicated…”
Keeping in mind our Constitutional protections against government
restrictions on free speech, what should the Kansouri legislature do about
cyber-bullying? In your answer, address the issue in the fictional state of
Kansouri.”
Please use specific examples in your essay.
