WELCOME BACK TO A NEW YEAR. YES, WE WILL HAVE WRITERS' WORKSHOP FOR BOTH
CLASSES THIS WEEK!
WEEK OF JANUARY 4, 2010
Religion
We will be talking about the importance of the gift of family this week. We
will touch on the sacrament of marriage, as well as the respnsibilities that
come with being a member of a family.
Promise Magazine for January 10th will deal with the Baptism of Jesus by John.
The gospel for that Sunday is from Luke 3: 15-16, 21-22.

New Vocabulary Words of the Week

We will be beginning small groups for the purpose of dealing with individual
needs of students. Some need extra help using sounds to decode words, some
need to work on making their sight words more automatic, and not sounding
everything out. Still others need to work on reading and comprehending
passages that they are reading silently. Hopefully we will be able to give
everyone extra help in areas where they need it.
We are also going to begin working on fluency in oral reading. The children
will have a passage each week that they are to practice as frequently as
possible at home. Each week they will be given the opportunity to read the
passage while being timed. I will stress that this is not a contest to see
who can read the fastest, but rather to train them to keep their eyes moving.
Their goal is to improve their own score, not to compete with anyone else.
PIZZA HUT BOOK-IT CALENDARS FROM DECEMBER NOW BEING ACCEPTED!!
Creative Writing
Beginning this week, the children will be given three sentences each week to
edit and they will get a score at the end of the week indicating the number
of capitalization and punctuation errors that they made. These should come
home with them each week, so look for them.
Writers' Workshop will continue as it was last semester:
Purple Class - Monday afternoon 1:30 - 2:15
Blue Class - Tuesday afternoon 2:30 - 3:15
As always, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail if you have any questions
or concerns.
