WEEK OF NOVEMBER 9, 2009
RELIGION
This week the first graders will learn how Jesus called his first apostles
and charged them with teaching the Good News about God. We will see that
people followed Jesus and were baptized.
Promise Magazine tells about Jesus sharing that he would return at the Second
Coming,from Mark 13: 24 - 32.
READING
We will continue to assess sight word recognition. Keep on working on the
challenge words if your child does not have them mastered.
The vocabulary words for this week are:

REALLY BIG NEWS!! All the children have now started taking their reading
tests independently. I have not been reading any of them. Some are still a
little shakey with the comprehension. If your child is one of them, you may
request that they bring the book home on Thursday night for some additional
help with the story. I only lend these books if parents request them, so I
know they will come back the next day. We do not have extras, so we need
every book during class time. We also have every child working in Multiple
Skills now!!!
This week we will continue stressing the short vowel sounds as well as
the hard and soft sounds of g and c.
We will also continue practice with capitalizing proper nouns and identifying
main ideas in paragraphs.
I am still accepting Pizza Hut calendars for October.
CREATIVE WRITING
Writers'Workshop has been going very well. Thanks to all the parents who
could get away to help edit and publish the stories that are filling the
downstairs hallway. We welcome you whenever you are able to be with us.
Purple Class meets on Mondays from 1:30 - 2:15
Blue Class meets on Tuesdays from 2:30 - 3:15
We will continue identifying and discussing nouns and verbs this week. We
have now added adjectives to our repetoire in an attempt to spice up our
writing!!
If you encounter any questions or problems at all, please
don't hesitate to e-mail or call. I will respond.
