Social Studies

For the Week of: November 23-24

We will spend most of Tuesday, November 24, working on Thanksgiving
activities - Readers' Theater, Turkey Headbands, Colonial Bookmarks, etc.

We enjoyed reading a History Mystery called "Peril at Plimoth" on Monday,
November 23 - ask your child what the clue about "A Saved R" meant (it had
something to do with a friendship pouch with two flint rocks).

Here's a recipe that you might enjoy:
Thanksgiving Blessings Snack Mix:
Bugles - a symbol of the Cornucopia, a horn of plenty
Pretzels - arms folded in thanks and prayer
Goldfish - fish from the Atlantic to nourish the Pilgrims
Candy Corn - during the first winter, the Pilgrims were allowed only five
kernels of corn per day because food was so scarce
Dried Cranberries - a reminder that Thanksgiving was the celebration of the
harvest of fruit from nearby cranberry bogs
Peanuts - to represent seeds, the potential of the bounteous harvest for
the next season if they were planted and well-tended
