December 2, 2009
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Things are going to get
very hectic between now and Christmas, but we are going to get as much
accomplished as possible. Along with academics, we will also be preparing
for the Christmas program on December 17th and making some Christmas
presents, so we will be busy! I am trying really hard to get the math and
science chapters finished before the Christmas break.
Math:
We finished the subtraction chapter this week. We are now working on telling
time. During this chapter we will learn how to tell time to the minute,
different ways to tell time, number of minutes after the hour, number of
minutes before the hour, and elapsed time. We will also review ordinal
numbers, reading a calendar, reading a schedule and reading a thermometer.
The test over this chapter (chapter 12) will probably be on Monday, December
12th.
Science:
We took the quiz over the 3.1 study guide questions on Monday. We have been
working on the 3.2 study guide questions this week and we will take the quiz
over those questions on Monday, December 7th. We will do the chapter 3
review on Friday, the 3.2 quiz next Monday, the chapter 3 test next Tuesday,
the Module A review next Tuesday, and the Module A test next Thursday.
Science Fair:
St. John School Science Fair will be held on February 4, 2010 during the
Catholic Schools Week open house. Please encourage your child to
participate. There will be more information about the science fair after the
Christmas break.
Christmas Projects:
Christmas will be here soon, so it's time to get busy on some special
Christmas projects. I'm going to leave it up to your child as to whether or
not they want to tell you what they are making. I will need $5.50 from each
child for a special gift. Actually, the $5.50 will allow each child to make
3 gifts! Please send the money to school with your child by Tuesday,
December 8th. This year you will have 2 payment options. Please mark below
whether you want to send a check or add it to your monthly statement, then
send the lower portion back to school. If you are not able to send the
money, please let me know and the school will take care of it. If you write
a check, please make it out to St. John School.
We will also need wire coat hangers. They need to be the ones that are
completely wire, and the heavier ones are better than the flimsy ones. We
won’t need the hangers until next week, but you can send them anytime.
