Wow! I can’t believe the holiday season is upon us. I hope you all enjoyed
your Thanksgiving holiday and are waiting with anticipation during this
Advent season.

READING
You and your child should complete the November book report by Thursday,
December 3rd. I hope you are enjoying this project. It really is a fun way
to share good literature. You also have a chance to share your personal
responses with that of your child’s. Your child will be sharing the book
report in class. Our next book report will be due at the end of January (We
take December off ).

This week we will read Tornado Alert, another nonfiction piece. We will
focus our attention on using context clues while reading and making
connections.

Next week we will read a book called The Jolly Postman in class. The
students will write letters similar to the ones in the book. They choose a
character to write to and a company to help solve the fairy tale character’s
problem. It is a great higher level thinking activity. Look for these in a
class book at school. We’ll conclude with The True Story of the Three Little
Pigs (the wolf’s side of the story).

Continue to turn in the reading logs every Friday. This Friday we will be
accepting two weeks worth of reading log time (Nov. 23-27 and Nov. 30-
Dec.4). Those students, who turn in their reading log on Friday and have
turned it in through the month of November, will be receiving a Book-It
certificate good for one personal pan pizza! Our next Read In will be
Thursday, January 7th.

ENGLISH
We are studying verbs; verbs in the present (i.e.: builds, barks, laughs,
tosses…), verbs in the past (i.e.: steered, kicked, floated, pushed,
cried…), the special verb be (am, is, are, was, were), helping verbs (has and
have), irregular verbs (i.e.: went, saw, did, ran, came, gave…), and
contractions with not (i.e.: isn’t, aren’t, wasn’t …) You may want to ask
your child about verbs at home as a great way to review.

HANDWRITING
We have reviewed all the upper and lower case cursive letters. The students
have been completing some of their Spelling assignments in cursive and will
begin doing most of their written work in cursive after Christmas break. Be
sure to compliment them on their beautiful cursive writing! I am so proud of
them!
