***REMINDER***
There is no school on Friday! We will be setting up for the school auction
at that time. Friday night is Family Night and the auction takes place on
Saturday. Please join us for our biggest fundraiser of the year!

The KU Symphony Orchestra concert last Friday was a great success! The
orchestra played wonderfully and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the
performance. The orchestra's conductor even changed costumes for each piece
played! I was very pleased to see many St. John's students at the
performance. There were so many people in attendance that the programs ran
out! Parents, thank you for taking your kids to the concert. It is a great
musical experience for them. I hope you enjoyed yourselves! The KU Symphony
Orchestra has another concert scheduled for November 22nd. I will post
details about that concert as they become available.

For the week of Nov. 2nd:

Kindergarten classes continue to work on steady beat, singing independently,
putting motions/dance to music, and deciding between same/different,
loud/soft, and up/down (melodic direction). This week we start talking about
things we're thankful for, which we will continue until Thanksgiving. We
will be using unpitched percussion instruments to play the steady beat.
Students will identify the difference between speaking voice and singing
voice.

The primary students continue this week with 4 beat rhythm
cards. Third graders move on to putting multiple cards together and
performing in groups. First and second graders will be starting to use the
rhythm cards containing eighth notes. First through third will all be
singing songs in preparation of Thanksgiving Hopefully we will be starting
the Christmas program music next week.

Intermediate classes will be working on some songs for Mass. The students
desperately want more songs to sing, so we are delivering! We will be
learning sings that are not currently familiar to the group. Fourth graders
continue their study of the recorder. Only a few weeks left of our recorder
unit and then the fourth graders will be joining the fifth and sixth grades
in Mass and holiday music.
