Religious Education K-8

Religious Education is the current name for what you may have called 
Catechism Class,CCD,or SOR.  Any child in the parish not attending a 
Catholic school for grades K-8 should attend a weekly religion class. 

Two sessions for classes are offered on Wednesday Evenings from which you can
choose. One from 4:30-5:45 or our evening session from 6:15-7:30.

To register your Kindergarten-8th grade student for Religious Education, 
please visit the "R.E.Registration 2011-2012" page on the Christian 
Formation website or call Beth Bracken, Director of Religious Education in 
the Christian Formation Office at 631-8923, ext. 4592.



Sacramental Preparation

Reconciliation*

Preparation for and reception of Reconciliation is during the first semester 
of second grade.  Children must participate in a parish-wide retreat 
called “Peace Day” as part of their curriculum.

Eucharist* (Holy Communion)

Preparation is during the second semester of second grade for reception of 
the Eucharist.  Children must participate in a parish-wide retreat 
called “Jesus Day” as part of their studies.

*Parents are urged to attend one family preparation meeting for each 
sacrament.

Confirmation

Students in the 8th grade will be preparing for the Sacrament of 
Confirmation 
throughout the school year.  Students will:
  1. Attend weekly religious education classes;
  2. Attend 2 “Days of Reflection” and Rites ~Dates to be announced.
  3. Attend a Retreat with all students to be Confirmed.
  4. Have completed 35 hours of community service. **
        10 hours in 6th grade;
        10 hours in 7th grade; and
        15 hours in 8th grade.
  5. Write a letter to the Archbishop.

Unbaptized/Uncatechized Youth

Any unbaptized/uncatechized youth in grades 3-8 will participate in the 
Beginning Catholics curriculum. 

 Any teen in grades 9-12 will participate in a High School Catechesis 
program, namely those teens who still need to receive the Sacraments of 
Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Please contact the
