TOYOTA Summer 2010 Exchange Scholarship Program Students have an opportunity to go abroad for 6 weeks in the summer through Youth For Understanding (YFU) USA International Exchange. For the summer of 2010 TOYOTA will offer a fully paid summer scholarship! Students can choose from the following countries: Brazil, Japan, and Germany. Students must have a 2.0 GPA or higher and have a birth date between Sept. 1, 1991 and June 15, 1995 (Applicants to Japan must have a birth date that falls between April 2, 1992 and April 1, 1995). Application deadine is January 5, 2010. Applications are available by calling YFU directly at 1-800-833-6243 or on the website: www.YFU-USA.org.
Governor's School for the Arts ArtShops ArtShops are free to high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and give "an opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop in their chosen art form. Students applying for the Governor's School for the Arts are highly encouraged to attend to better prepare them for the audition/review process in March. Students can register on-line @ www.kentuckygsa.org."
Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) through the University of Cincinnati. High school students may enroll for college classes for college credit. The student is responsible for tuition, fees and book expenses. Visit www.admissions.uc.edu/PSEOP for application and information.
Cincinnati Children's Hospital has two ways students can observe: Job Shadowing or through the Center of Professional Excellence. For the Job Shadowing Program visit www.cincinnatichildrens.org/job-shadow. Bentley University Leadership Program - Tomorrow25 - "to honor 25 high-achieving students who are already making things happen in their schools, communities, and beyond - appear to be well on their way to becoming tomorrow's leaders of business and society." For selection criteria, nomination forms and information please visit www.bently.edu/Tomorrow25. Northern Kentucky University Academy - for students who do not meet initial NKU admission requirements. Xavier University - Two summer programs to earn college credit:
JUMP START program - "is a two-week residential program offering either a Pre-med or Criminialistics course."
HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR PROGRAM - "is for commuter students to take freshman level classes at a reduced rate."
North Central AHEC Health Career & Summer Opportunities Job Shadowing – Students are eligible to shadow a health care professional at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky for up to 4 hours at a time. Students must fill out paperwork, show proof of a negative TB Skin Test and complete a brief training session. There is no cost to the students. Gateway to Health Careers Camp – Any current high school student who is interested in learning more about careers in health care can apply to participate in this week long day camp. Hosted by the AHEC at Gateway Community College in Edgewood, students will learn about various careers by doing hands on activities and tours of St. Elizabeth Medical Center. The camp usually runs in early June. There is no cost to the students and lunch is provided for free. Applications are normally due in April. Check Gateway Community and Technical College website for further details. UK Summer Enrichment Program – This 6 week residential camp hosted at the University of Kentucky introduces current high school juniors to professional health careers. Students will spend time in the classroom and the lab as well as spending time on rotations throughout UK Medical Center. Extracurricular events are planned in the evenings and on the weekends. The program usually runs in June and is free for qualifying students – a stipend for meals, laundry and travel to and from the camp is provided. Check UK's website for more information. UK Summer Researchers Program – This 2 week residential program is open to current high school juniors and seniors. Students live on UK’s campus and spend time learning about health and science related research and complete their own research project over the 2 week period. The program normally runs in July and is free for qualifying students – a stipend for meals, laundry and travel to and from the camp is provided. Check UK's website for more information. PEPP Scholars Summer Program (UK and UofL) – The Kentucky Professional Education Preparation Program is a summer residential program at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Open to incoming college freshman interested in pursuing a career in medicine or dentistry, students will experience college life, clinical settings and science enrichment in unique ways. Check each school's website for dates and more information. The program is free to qualifying students from the following northern Kentucky counties: Bracken, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, and Pendleton. Applications are required and have deadlines - check the website for these deadlines. PEPP Scholars Summer Program (Pikeville College) - The Kentucky Professional Education Preparation Program is a summer residential program at the Pikeville College. Open to current high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or dentistry, students will experience college life, clinical settings and science enrichment in unique ways. PEPP Pikeville normally runs in June. The program is free to qualifying students from the following northern Kentucky counties: Bracken, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant, and Pendleton.
