What do I do if my child is absent?
First of all, call the school office at 528-1651 and let the
school know that your child will be absent and the reason why.
Next, let the school know if you will be picking up assignments
at the end of the day (STRONGLY SUGGESTED). The people in the
office will let us know so that we can get your child's
assignments together for you to pick up by 3:00 pm. It is usually
best to give us until the end of the day to get assignments
together for pick up because we won't have time during the school
day to get things put together.
Last of all, be sure to send a WRITTEN excuse to school with your
child on the day he/she returns stating your child's name, date
of absence(s), and reason for absence(s). Remember to sign the
excuse. The school must have this written excuse either from you
or the physician. Parental excuses are limited to five.
Are cell phones allowed at school?
There is really no need for a child to have a cell phone at
school. However, if a parent/guardian insists that they have
one, the cell phone must remain in the child's backpack and
TURNED OFF during the school day. If we see it or hear it, we
take it until the end of the day. If this happens on more than
one occasion, the parent must pick the phone up at the end of the
day. If it is necessary for you to contact your child at school,
you must call the school office at 528-1651, and the office
personnel will relay the message to your child.
How much home time will be required for my child to complete assignments?
Students are given time to work on assignments that they are
given during class time at school. However, children work at
different paces. Some students work faster than others while
other students require more time. If an assignment is not
completed during class time, the student has the option of
staying in at break time to complete it or to take it home. If
your child is bringing home HOURS of work to complete, they are
simply not utilizing their class time wisely. (On the average, a
child should have no more than 1 hour of outside work to complete
at home per day.) If this becomes a problem, please contact us
to discuss the situation.
Is my child allowed to bring games/toys/cards/gum to school?
NO....NEVER...Well, wait a minute...the only exceptions are on
the rare occasions when some of these items may be requested by
the teacher for a classroom activity. GUM WILL NEVER BE
ALLOWED...IT IS A SCHOOL POLICY.
How and when will I receive my child's graded papers?
Your child's graded papers will be sent home every 1-2 weeks in a folder.
Please date and sign the paper in the front and have your child
return the folder to school. Please keep all papers at home unless
it is requested to have them returned.
If you have any questions about any papers you receive, please
feel free to email, call, or write a note. The easiest way to
contact us would be through email. If necessary, we would be
happy to set up a time for a conference.
How can I get in contact with my child's teacher to set up a conference?
Getting in contact with us is relatively simple.
The quickest and best way to reach us is through email. We
generally check our email as soon as we get to school in the
morning. If you send an email during the school day, we may not
be able to respond until after the students have left for the day.
The best time to reach us by phone is during our planning period
which is scheduled from (?) daily. You may call the school
office at (606)528-1651 during this time to discuss a convenient
time to meet. Once again, it is best if we can meet during our
planning periods. However, if work schedules will not permit this,
we can set up early morning (before 7:40 a.m.) appointments or
after school (3:15 p.m.) to accommodate you. We want you to be
involved!
Is my child allowed to pass out birthday/party invitations at school?
ONLY if every child in the class will be given an invitation.
Otherwise, you should make alternate arrangements.
May my child bring cupcakes for his/her birthday?
Yes. Your child will be able to pass them out during lunch.
