Redhound Readergirlz
Corbin Middle School’s all girl bookclub, Redhound Readergirlz, under the direction of Kristal Doolin and Pam Bishop, was recently awarded a $500 NEA Read Across America grant. These funds will be used so that club members may celebrate “Read Across America” on May 2, 2012 with young students at Corbin Primary School. Last year this club delighted primary students by pairing up and presenting a Dr. Seuss book and activity in each primary class. Of course, The Cat in the Hat made an appearance thanks to the Kentucky Education Association. The funds for this grant will be used to purchase additional Dr. Seuss books, pencils, stickers, and refreshments for the event. The purpose of the event is to enhance literacy. Of course, the club members and primary students have a lot of fun in the process, too.
