What do Youth Services Centers do? The primary goal of Youth Services Centers (YSCs) are to remove noncognitive barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic succuss. Each center offers a unique blend of programs and services determined by the needs of the population being served, available resources, location and other local characteristics. What activities does the YSC at Corbin Middle implement? The YSC offers numerous programs including The Backpack Kids Program, Character Education Program, Covered Stocking Program, The Redhound Stepping Up Mentoring Program, Certified Babysitting classes, Star Chef Cooking Classes, and Reality Store are just some of the programs the Youth Services Cneter at Corbin Middle offers. The Family Resoure and Youth Services Centers are state funded grants based on free lunch counts of the schools served. The program receives $208 per every free lunch student. What is the difference between the Family Resource and Youth Services Center? The Family Resource center serves students age 6 weeks to 12 years of age. The FRC programs have 6 components that must be implemented. The YSC program program serves students 12 years of age and assists students in transititioning for adult life. The YSC has 5 components in which it operates. What components does the YSC program have? The 5 components are: Referrals to Health and Social Services Family Crisis and Mental Health Counseling Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling Employment Counseling, Training and Placement Summer and Part-Time Job Development Can the YSC pay my utility bills? No. The YSC can, however, provide agencies or area churches that may be able to assist families. What basic need services does the YSC program offer? The YSC has a clothing closet at Corbin East School. Clothing sizes aavailable are child sizes to adult. Coats are also available. The YSC can give Goodwill vouches with a designated dollar amount for qualifying families. The YSC has all local food and clothing pantries on file. Please contact the YSC for a detailed list. The YSC can spend $50 per family per year on basic need items, such as clothing, for students. Some school supplies are available for students in the YSC office. Hygiene packs are available in the YSC upon request. The FRYSC program sponsors the Covered Stocking Program at Christmas. |
