KMEA 5th District Fall Meeting

The meeting was called to order
Members present introduced themselves to welcome new members
A discussion of the formation of a new elementary honors choir was discussed.
It was stated that this organization was to kept separate of KMEA.
Financial report was waived due to absence of treasurer.
There was recap of new rules changes and clarifications from the summer
marching band board of control. Sign up for sanctioned contest deadline is now
4 weeks in advace as opposed to 2 weeks. For other details, directors should
consult the KMEA website.
Tickets for the All State Concerts will be increased from $8 to $10.
Solos will remain $5 however Ensembles are now $10.
Audition dates for middle school All District Band were discussed. Jeff Root
motioned to host at Oldham Co. middle school on Saturday November 13th
starting at 9:00am and ending around 1:00pm. The audition fee will be $5.00.
There was a discussion of the number and type of judges to be hired. Bob
Parker volunteered to contact and hire judges. Audition Set D music will be
used for for the auditions. The deadline for signing up to audition will be
Friday Oct. 29th. Tammy Oether will organize the audition times.
The All District Band Clinic will be held on January 7th and 8th at either
North Oldham High School or Martha Lane Collins High School. The snow make-up
date will be Friday and Saturday January 14th and 15th.
High School All District Band/All State Round 1 auditions will be held at
Henry Co. High School on Thursday November 18th to start at as close to 6:00pm
as possible. The deadline for signing up to audtion will be November 5th. The
fee for auditions is $6.00 ($3 to the state and $3 to the district).
All State Band 2nd Round will be Saturday December 11th at John Hardin with
auditions to begin at 2:00. The audition fee is $7.00.
Teachers of the year - Elementary - Nomination for Stephanie Pucket was
motioned and accepted. Middle School - Kathy Iqbal was nominated and
accepted. High School - Kyle Ray was nominated and accepted.
Friend of Music - Dennis Anderson was nominated and accepted.
Citation of Service - Bob Parker was nominated and accepted.
Outstanding Administrator Award - Denice Allen, principal, Mount Washington
Middle School
25 year service award - Peggy Pickett
State Chair Nomination - Sue Lou Smith was nominated for State Choral Chair
Elect, Bob Parker was nominated for State Elementary/Middle School
Instrumental Chair Elect, Mary McGillen was nominated for State Orchestra
Chair Elect, Erin Kelly was nominated for State General Music K-5 Elect.
Separation into Divisional Meetings
Band - Large Group Festival will be held on March 29th and 30th at the Oldham
Co. Schools Arts Center. Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held at East
Oldham Middle School on Saturday Feb. 26th. All Form I's are due to the KMEA
office with fees by Jauary 15th, All Form II's are due to Robert Parker by
January 15th as well. Any forms received after the deadline will be honored if
possible but will be scheduled at the end of the festival so as not to affect
the other directors.
