Attention Parents:
An announcement went out to students today that the 8th grade will hold two parent-teacher
conferences in January. The first conference will occur on Jan. 6th from 5-8pm and will be by
invitation only. Please note that I will NOT be able to attend during this conference time. I
will be available for conferencing Jan. 7th from 4-7pm and Jan. 8th from 4-7pm. If you need to
schedule a conference with me at either of these times, please contact me to set an appointment.

Dear Parents & Students...
If you were absent from Social Studies last week and missed viewing part of the "Guns, Germs, &
Steel" DVD, you will need to attend an "encore" presentation of the documentary in Mrs. Green's
or Mr. Duvall's classroom before or after-school. Mrs. GREEN will be showing 2nd half of the
DVD in her room on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings (12/9 & 12/10) started promptly at 7:45am. Mr.
DUVALL will be showing the entire documentary in his room starting around 3:40pm on Tuesday
afternoon (12/10)--the DVD runs about an hour--ending around 4:45. Please make every effort to
attend this if you missed the information in class. Please email me if you have any questions.

Dear Parents & Students...
A study guide for our Unit 2 Test went go out Thursday, Dec. 4 and Friday, Dec. 5. The test
will occur on Friday, Dec. 12 for TEAL classes and Monday, Dec. 15 for BLACK classes. Although
this unit has been relatively short compared to our first colossal American Government unit,
there is a good deal of content to be studied. Since this will be the last major assessment
before the end of the 2nd term (ending the week or so after we return from Winter Break), this
is a great opportunity for students wishing to improve their grade. The majority of documents
students will need to study from are located in their Social Studies notebooks; if, for some
reason, you cannot find these documents in your notebook, please check my website under "Unit 2:
Exploration and Convergence" where you can find digital copies available for download and
printing. The study guide is also available on that page. If you have any questions regarding
the upcoming test or this email, please feel free to contact me via phone or email.

Dear Parents...
Hopefully everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday break and are trying to stay warm during
the chilly pre-Winter Break weather. Please note that mid-terms will go home tomorrow (December
3) afternoon for your review. Please contact me or the school if you do not receive your
child's mid-term report. Mid-terms need to be signed by a parent and returned to the student's
Target teacher prior to Friday, December 5th. If your child has scored below 70% so far this
2nd 9 weeks, you will receive a progress report in addition to the mid-term explaining your
child's grade for Social Studies so far. Please review this information and contact me if you
have any questions or comments.
