Essential & Guiding Questions

Note: Guiding Questions are to be answered in your notebook when assigned.  The Essential Question is to be answered as practice prior to the final quiz/test of the unit. 
 Unit 3: Essential & Guiding Questions
Essential Question:
How does the Constitution organize the U.S. government and protect the rights of the people? 

Guiding Questions:

1)What are the purposes of government?
2)What are the 3 main types of governments?
3) What ideas did the Founding Fathers of the United States of America "borrow" to create our system of government?





























 

Unit 2: Essential & Guiding Questions

Essential Question:

How did the ideals of equality and personal liberty that developed during Colonial times motivate the fighting of the American Revolution and lead to a democratic form of government?

 

Guiding Questions:

 

1)  What were the geographical, political, economic, and cultural characteristics of the three colonial regions?

 

2)  What were the early attempts and motivations for English Settlement?


3) What were some characteristics of each of the 13 British colonies? When were they founded? Who founded them? Why were they founded? (1-2 sentences per colony)
 
4) How does daily life in the colonies compare/contrast to daily life in America today?
 
5) Why did American colonists view themselves as “Englishmen” entitled to certain rights and how did this play a role in the events that led to the American Revolution? 
 
6) What was Thomas Paine’s ultimate argument in Common Sense and what were some key concepts in his argument?
 
7) What were the Patriots and Loyalists and how did they differ in their views on American indepedence from England? 
 
8)  How did the Declaration of Independence argue for colonial independence from England (please cite specific arguments/complaints)?
 
9)  What were the strengths and weaknesses of the Continental Army?  British Army?  How might these have played a role in the outcome of the American Revolution?
 
10) What were some of the major battles of and what was their impact in the American Revolution?  What was the result of the Treaty of Paris?

1. How did the early peoples arrive and settle in the Americas?

2.  How did Native Americans adapt to their environments?
3.  What goods were exchanged between Native Americans and Europeans as a result of the Columbian Exchange?
4.  How were Europeans explorers able to conquer Native Americans in the New World and not the other way around?
