I hope that everyone had an awesome winter break. It’s hard to believe that
we are almost halfway through this school year. In Language Arts this week
students will be receiving their Vocabulary list 7. Vocabulary Test 7 will
be on Friday, 1/9 for TEAL day and Monday, 1/12 for BLACK day. Also, on
those days they need to have their typed spelling list. Remember all lists
consist of 20 words. These words can come from their own writing or
reading. Their spelling test will Monday, 1/19 for TEAL day and Tuesday,
1/20 for BLACK day.
Also this week we will be reflecting upon our winter breaks in our writing
journals. Working on transitional phrases in our writing and how
recognizing transitional phrases in reading helps one sequence events. We
will also work with specific “color words” and learn that being specific in
writing allows the reader to become more involved. In addition to
transitional words and specific color words we will be adding metaphors and
similes into our personal narratives. A specific due date for the third
draft of the personal narrative has not been set yet. Watch in your child’s
agenda for a due date.
